I am the Executive Director of the Chowan Discovery Group (CDG), www.chowandiscovery.org, whose purpose is to research, document, preserve and present the history of the Winton Triangle (Winton-Cofield-Ahoskie), a 260-year old landowning community of color. Many of us are Chowanoke descendants. For Chowan Discovery, I deliver 6 different lectures to civic groups, museums, libraries, universities and conferences.
I am a commerical photographer and documentary film producer, living in Washington, DC. On my monthly trips to Hertford County I get to visit family, friends and to carry out the work of the CDG.
I have written an article about the 400+ year history of the Robbins family. Also, my history essay about the Winton Triangle was recently published in the book, CAROLINA GENESIS. This essay is based on a stage production I produced, with the help of my sister Laverne, in 2009 at Ahoskie's Gallery Theatre. Many Chowanoke relatives attended.
In 2011, based on my nomination, a North Carolina Highway Historical Marker was erected near the town of Choanoac. Here is a recent article about Chowan Discovery's work with historical markers: http://outerbanksvoice.com/2015/04/04/how-one-man-has-made-a-mark-on-history-in-northeast-n-c/
I invite all of you to support the Chowan Discovery Group, a tax-exempt charitable organization at www.chowandiscovery.org..
