Thank you for such an interesting website. My son is doing a school project on the Chowanoke. It has been a struggle to find reference materials for his project and I am delighted to find this. I hope historians will continue writing about the Chowanoke people. Kind regards, Catherine Hart

Thank you for sharing all this wonderful information. I have been working on our family tree and found we had some distant family that were Chowanoke and Choctaw. I did like the article SHOVEL SHAPED "INDIAN" TEETH by John Fletcher Freeman. Also the relative I found who was from the Chowanoke tribe was William Jackson Freeman which was interesting.

Hello,
I am seeking parental information for my family tree which includes my 6th grandfather Abraham R. Odom, wife Sibbel (Sibby) Barnes, son Jacob Odom who lived in Chowan, NC early to late 1700's. I believe Sibby is Chowanoke.

Thanks & God bless,
Debra Odom Pike

Within the last 2 or so years I learned that I am a part of the Freeman family and a descendant of John Freeman and his wife Tabitha. I have a very strong match to the large DNA family of Freeman descendants and my DNA shows Native American DNA on a recent test. It is interesting to know that i am a Chowanoke (People of the South) descendant. My daughter also carries Native American DNA.
